Challenge

The customer initially contacted us in need of a roof repair.  This 2-story home was originally built in 1886 with additions.  Our expert roofing crew discovered 3 of the 4 roofing areas needed to be replaced with new decking and underlayment in order to prevent future leaks and costly repairs.

Solution

A complete tear off of 3 layers of shingles and underlayment took place in order to install new decking and waterproof shingle underlayment to the roof in specified areas.  The roof deck was repaired and replaced as needed and new flashing installed at all roof/wall intersections and chimneys.

CertainTeed Landmark shingles were installed in Atlantic Blue.  New seamless gutters and downspouts were installed to complete this project.

  • The original structure of this 2-story home was built in 1886.

  • Additions were constructed throughout the years, creating a patchwork of roofing systems on the home.

  • Three layers of shingles needed to be removed.

  • Cedar Shake shingles were the first layer on the original structure. Whenever Cedar Shake is discovered, the decking almost always needs to be replaced.

  • Because of the additions constructed at various times, decking and roofing materials varied.

  • New decking was installed.

  • New decking and flashing would need to be installed around the chimneys.

  • A chimney saddle was also installed to improve drainage around the surface.

  • New flashing around the chimneys.

  • Chimneys are a common area for leaks.

  • This new roofing system will last for many years on this home when maintained properly. Another great project completed by the Precision Roofing Services expert roofing crew!
