Winter creates a special attic ventilation problem in areas where snowfall and cold temperatures are common occurrences.  The problem begins with the formation of ice dams which prevent melt water from running off a roof.

While we can't stop winter from occurring, residents should be prepared for ice and snow storms which can hit at anytime.

Some homeowners may think of the attic as simply extra space for storage.  But did you know the attic is an integral part of your roofing system?  You should inspect and maintain it alongside other parts of your roofing system to keep it in good condition during the winter.

Most homeowners in Michigan understand that brutal winter weather can be particularly harsh on roofing, but may not realize that the same winter weather can also damage gutters.
